Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach at Title 1 public high school in a special program where students work to be college ready. My students are over 75% free and reduced lunch and 70 % non-native speakers of English. They are seniors in high school willingly accepting challenge after challenge.

My students are working to complete Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition to earn college credit while in high school. Students love to read and explore different perspectives. Stream of consciousness narration will make this very challenging for them. The cost of the book will prevent them from participating in the reading of this book.

The 35 copies of Faulkner's Sound and Fury will allow the whole AP class to discuss and analyze the language and narration of this modern tragedy. Taking on the reading of this text will empower them and give them the opportunity see themselves as ready to move onto university work next year.

Your generous donation will allow a whole class to participate in rich discussion about the complexity of tragedy, the power of language and uniqueness of the human experience.
