Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My boys track athletes love to run. Running track gives the boys self-confidence and a desire to "do better". We always have a large number of boys on the team, but not all of them can afford to purchase track cleats. And they all have different sizes of feet!!!
Most of the track boys come from single parent low-income inter-city homes.
Our team is made up of 30-45 7th and 8th grade multi-cultural boys. 84% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch services.
My Project
Each year we have 40-60 boys try out for our boys track team. Making the track team is an honor for these boys! Most every boy who makes the team comes from a single parent low-income home. Most families can not afford to buy their son a new pair of cleats for track. We have always tried to provide track cleats for each boy.
WHEN THE TRACK BOYS PUT ON A NEW PAIR OF TRACK CLEATS, THEY FEEL LIKE SUPERMAN!
With the budget cuts hitting hard in education, especially in athletics, we are unable to purchase cleats for our season this year. The cleats that we have in storage are old and torn. Some of the soles are worn so bad that we are no longer able to put spikes into them!
With your help, our track boys will be able to compete competitively in our track meets and develop a great sense of pride when wearing the cleats. The cleats just might be the only new pair of shoes they might get this year...
