Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach three to five year-old students with a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments in our school's Pre-Kindergarten Special Day Class. For many of my students, this is their first exposure to a classroom setting with peers and teachers. Most importantly, this is their first time being away from their parents.

Despite the many unfamiliarities they might face, these children are resilient.

They explore the new and foreign environment with eagerness and put on their biggest and bravest smiles as they come to school everyday to learn with peers! We are so excited to have our students back for in-person learning. In the first two weeks alone, so many new friendships and connections have been formed. I can't wait to see what the rest of this school year brings for my students.

My Project

In helping fund this project, my group of pre-k students will be able to have a more enriched learning experience at school! The proposed toys and supplies cover a range of our daily activities and routines such as our outdoor time and free-choice time.

Currently, we are sharing outdoor equipment with the general education, pre-k classroom.

When their class goes indoors, our students are left with limited supplies. With our own set of hula-hoops, we'll be able to play even when it's time for our peers to go inside!

Another one of the objects in this project is a marble maze. Our students had the pleasure of playing with one at the beginning of the school year. However, our maze recently broke, so we are hoping to get a new one and continue our joy of playing with them!

The other materials in the project will help provide toys and materials for free-choice time. A lot of our current materials in the classroom are starting to show signs of wear and tear and have either been thrown out or need a little more TLC. With the funding of this project, we're hoping to replenish some of the materials we had to throw away.
