My students need a carpet rug to sit on because the majority of our instruction takes place on the carpet. Imagine sitting on a thin layer of carpet with concrete underneath all day long!
I work in a low income and very transient school. We live in a town where tourism thrives, which means at any given moment there’s a chance of a knock on the door with a new student on the other side. That new student is probably only here for a few weeks. They may or may not have a backpack or supplies. There’s also a good chance they live in a hotel. That same student probably doesn’t speak much English. Regardless of what language they speak, where they come from, or how long they will be with me, it’s my job to give them the best possible learning experience. These kids are my life and they deserve the very best.
My Project
A carpet rug would make a huge difference in learning in our classroom! The majority of our instruction takes place on our very uncomfortable carpet. The kids get tired of sitting on their bottoms after just a few minutes of instruction because they are basically sitting on concrete. This causes the students to wiggle around and block other students view of the lesson. Since they’re only six years old, it can be difficult for them to find their spot on the carpet. This also causes me to have to stop instruction frequently. It’s important to be comfortable while learning!
