This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a Title I school in North Carolina and many of my students are at risk of academic failure. This is many of my students' first time in a school setting. The early learners in my class are more interested in the process of discovering and manipulating materials than the final products of their experiments.
Learning experiences are meaningful and relevant for every child and reflect his or her developmental, cultural, and individual circumstances.
My students love to move and be active. However, because of recent budget cuts, we are unable to purchase additional resources such as the ones requested.
My Project
I would love to have a touchscreen computer to help us be able to use technology anywhere in our room. We will be able to use the computer for the different content areas in the learning station around the classroom. Having a computer will allow the students to become involved and engaged in different educational apps, writing activities, and virtual field trips. Which is necessary being that we are not able to attend field trips because of funding. The most important benefit from these technologies is the hands-on experiences they offer. The touch screen feature would allow my young students to manipulate and write inside the different apps and bring more meaning to their learning.
My students are being exposed to media through technology at very young age, so it seems especially important to engage them in appropriate activities with the right materials.
