Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students persevere, do their best, and take pride in their education. Most come from low income, first generation proud immigrant families. They are dedicated to their education because they know and appreciate the daily sacrifices their parents make for them. To them, school is exciting, something to celebrate, and they are grateful to come every day.

At our Title I school, most of my students receive and deserve some financial assistance to help their families make ends meet.

Half of my students have free or reduced priced meals and eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the school five days a week. They each deserve to have hands on materials to help them practice important reading skills

My Project

My excited first graders explore their world through touch and this includes the world of math. We need manipulatives they can touch, move, sort, count and move to help them conceptualize early concepts like counting, addition and subtraction. These manipulatives will give all of my students a chance to have hands on learning experiences. Everyday during math lessons we will be using these manipulatives to extend our learning and put it into practice. They will also be able use these manipulatives at centers to continue practicing math skills that we are learning. My students need these math manipulatives: dice, two-sided counters, cards and even math games to give them the winning boost into their academic successes. These tools will help them learn how to count, sort, make patterns, put numbers in number order, they will learn about ten-frames, making numbers, adding, subtracting, following directions, making sets, creating shapes using other shapes, and much more. Students will be guided through these activities and then be able to use these manipulatives individually.
