This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a blank slate. In Year One Kindergarten, I get many students that have never been to school before. It's my job to show them that school is awesome, learning is fun, and sitting at your desk all day is not what we do! We cover a lot of academics, along with social and emotional learning each day.
My school believes in "Kindergarten to College," which is a huge motivator for our families, most of whom live near the poverty line.
It is my privilege to begin their journey to success with hands-on learning and interactive lessons.
My Project
My class lays the groundwork for a child's entire educational career. It is my goal to give them a solid foundation that they an build upon each year. Part of that goal includes using many hands-on items to teach.
Learning through play helps my students internalize knowledge.
Using hands on activities, such as play dough (which doubles as a fine motor activity), magnet letters, and real objects to show letter sounds, keeps my students engaged and makes learning more meaningful.
Many of my students are being exposed to the alphabet for the very first time in my class. I want their experience to be fun, positive, and meaningful. These supplies will help me create the interactive environment I strive for and lessen the amount of worksheets we do in the classroom.
