Help me give my students magnetic letters, word building tiles, and other kinesthetic manipulatives to engage their tactile senses and unlock their full academic potential.
My students arrive at school every morning with smiles on their faces, eager to learn. They come from culturally, ethnically, and economically diverse families. Many of my students qualify for free and reduced-priced lunch meals, a program supported by our Title I school, and some of them learn English as their secondary language.
Regardless of the obstacles that my students face at home and in the community, my school offers a safe environment that encourages academic and social growth for all.
Our students "ROAR with Pride" by being respectful, responsible, and safe. It is my goal as a kindergarten educator to promote this school-wide motto by creating a fun, yet educational, learning atmosphere for my students.
My Project
A variety of mediums is needed to teach the young learner a specific concept or skill. For many students, a combination of visual, auditory, and tactile senses must be utilized to promote the complete retention of materials. However, the traditional classroom focuses primarily on visual and auditory measures, neglecting tactile lessons.
There are endless educational opportunities available when kinesthetic manipulatives are used.
Magna-tiles, letter blocks, pocket charts, magnetic letters and numbers, write and wipe boards, and sound tiles are all necessary additions to my arsenal of kinesthetic manipulatives. These materials can be used for identifying letters and numbers, spelling words, and solving basic mathematic equations: all of which are crucial building blocks to a student’s educational foundation. The manipulatives can also be used in a variety of lesson plans from independent assessments to collaborative group assignments.
