My Project

Many of my students are emerging readers with developmental and language delays, so traditional books can be difficult for them to engage with. Sensory books such as touch and feel stories, popper books, and flip books help make reading more accessible by allowing students to interact with the page using their hands while they listen to and explore the story. The different textures, flaps, and poppers capture their attention, encourage curiosity, and support focus for students who struggle to sit and attend during typical read alouds. These interactive features also help build important early literacy skills by strengthening vocabulary, cause and effect understanding, and communication as students point, touch, and respond to prompts in the book. By adding sensory books to our classroom library, my students will be able to experience reading in a hands on way that supports engagement, independence, and a love for books.
