My students attend an urban charter school where the majority of homes are high poverty. I love how grateful they are for our instruction, our guidance, and our emotional support. They put a smile on my face every day. I love watching their faces light up when they finally grasp a concept or are finally able to fluently read the book they've been working so hard on.
Their parents choose to send their children to our school so they can receive an outstanding education with high expectations.
My students struggle in reading and require small group instruction to supplement the general curriculum. These children work with me daily and work hard to improve their decoding, reading comprehension, fluency, etc. We are immersed in the wonderful world of books every day for 30 minutes. I incorporate games and hands-on activities to enhance their reading skills.
I am politely requesting 40 book totes for my small group reading intervention students. These children are in grades 1-5 and need a lot of support, intervention, and practice to become the amazing readers I know they can be.
Finding the right leveled books is a difficult find for most parents, especially within my school community where the students are from low income families.
In my class, the children are given books at their instructional level. Having book totes to transport these books from school to home can help supplement my daily instruction. It gives the children a chance to build their fluency and show off their reading skills to their parents. They will have the ability to read just right books at home and gain the confidence needed to become skilled readers.
