Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come to school with smiles and big dreams despite their classification as low-income/high poverty. They are funny, persistent and hard-working. Many students work 30-40 hours per week despite being full-time high school students. They do this to help pay rent, to send money home to their families and to meet basic needs.

As a school, we do our best to support our students as learners and young adults.

We emphasize socio-emotional learning across our campus to ensure that our students have the best chance of graduating high school and finding successful career paths.

My Project

Our students are new to the United States and many are eating processed foods for the first time. On top of this, few of our students visit the dentist regularly. While we can educate students about nutrition, we cannot control the food and drinks that they choose to consume. We hope that by receiving these oral hygiene materials we can launch a campaign encouraging regular brushing.

Being educated about oral hygiene and having access to toothbrushes and toothpaste can help ensure that our students do not suffer disproportionate rates of tooth decay or gum disease.
