My Students

My multicultural students walk into our fifth-grade classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. Students from all over the city, as well as other countries, join together for another day of learning with each other. We talk, support each other, learn from our mistakes, and compromise to grow into productive citizens.

Our school is a Title I school that provides a quality education via traditional and non-traditional pedagogy to ESL and newcomers, students from the highest poverty and varying family structures.

My school provides all of our students with free lunch. We are a compassionate school, which means that students receive a solid foundation in Common Core subjects and also learn and grow using traits/skills necessary to grow as young leaders and make a difference in the world.

My Project

I remember when I first found the love of reading when I was a child. Finding the right books was the key. As a teacher, I love seeing that blossom with my students. Graphic novels are a key ingredient in helping students engage in reading, especial for reluctant readers. Graphic novels have a way of grabbing my students attention while filling them with joy and knowledge.

Being able to provide my students with TOON Graphic Books will help build interest in reading books through a wide range of topics and genres.
