Tools To Enhance Concentration, Focus, and Reading Fluency
My students need 9 sound muffling headphones and 5 wiggle seats to help with focus.They also need 6 headsets with microphones to record and then listen to their reading.
Our day begins with a morning meeting where students can gather as a community to start their day. We enjoy a variety of activities, some busy and active and others quiet. We work together and support each other. As a teacher I want all of my students to be successful learners.
I have an energetic and excited group of third graders.
They love poetry, music, and movement. We, however, also need times of quiet concentration, particularly during reading and math. I have a great group of hard-working 3rd graders They all want to do well but some have a difficult time focusing in school.
Over the years I've seen many students use the noise muffling headphones to help them increase their focus and concentration. Wiggle seats are also great for those children who need to move. I would love to see all of my students be successful in school and I want to provide them with every opportunity available. We are a high poverty school -- about 70 percent of our students qualify for free/reduced lunch -- and any donations would be helpful.
My Project
Some of the materials requested are designed to give children tools to help them focus. The noise muffling headphones can give those who are easily distracted a tool that can help them concentrate and focus better in the classroom. The headphones help block out noise and allow children to better concentrate on their tasks. There are other children who need to move frequently. The wiggle seats can help those students balance their need for movement with their need to concentrate, I often tell the children that they will get what they need to succeed and it will look different for each student.
I believe these materials can give many children another tool to help them succeed in school. One of our goals as teachers is to help students increase their reading fluency and expression. Giving students the opportunity to record their reading, and then listen to themselves read, helps them in this area. The headphones with microphones can be used in conjunction with some computer programs.
I believe that giving all children the tools they need to be successful in school is very important.
The headphones and wiggle seats can help those who are having a harder time concentrating in school, and those who need to move frequently, tools for success. The headphones with microphones will allow students to hear how they are reading. This is important to help students improve their reading fluency and expression.
