Help me give my students the tools they need so they can easily adapt to blended learning. My students need tablets with, an air purifier and hands-on items so they can engage in remote learning more efficiently.
My students attend a NYC public school that services students with autism. We focus on academics, communication and social skills. My class provides specifically designed individualized services to students with significant delays including those who have multiple disabilities. Right now with the pandemic, our students will be provided with a blending learning experience. This means they will be in the classroom with us one week and then learning from home the next.
In our classroom, we value active participation and first-hand experiences as a means for our students to reach high standards of achievements.
Many of our students are from a low-income household and would typically not have the means to get the materials needed for remote learning. Our mission is to provide instructional programs, which allow our students to realize their talents, strengths, and capabilities.
My Project
Having the proper devices per student will help our students adapt during this blended learning experience. When working with children with autism, there is a comfortability in routine. We want to make the iPad their educational device that they have at home and at school, so they will understand iPad = education.
Hands-on activities offer my students with disabilities dynamic ways of learning and just as importantly, a way of fully discovering and expressing themselves.
Craft tools will offer my students the opportunity to express themselves in two-and three dimensional ways. We are also asking for an air purifier to improve the air quality in our school learning environment and offer added-on protection to the students and staff inside the classroom.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
