My students are extremely curious and, since it is their first year in an all-day structured program, they transition often from guided instruction to free choice learning. We have learning center time and a state-approved curriculum to keep them on track with other children their age in our state. I tell my students that they are the "Best kids in Texas" and our motto is "We are all friends."
I teach Pre-Kindergarten students at a Title I school in Texas, where we are currently recovering from Hurricane Harvey.
All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. The majority of my students are English Language Learners and have lots of excitement about school.
My Project
My students and I are in a small portable classroom and need ways to keep the movement to a minimum for safety purposes. We will be moving to a new school eventually but this month marks one year ago that Hurricane Harvey hit and turned our community upside down. We are on the mend but could use a little support.
Chair pockets for journals, crayons, pencils and other writing tools would be a perfect way to stay organized and safe in the classroom.
We have a writing center in our classroom but it is very small so most of our work is done using portable tools such as clipboards and supply boxes. If students could easily grab these writing tools without even walking around our limited space classroom, they would not only be safe, but also get work done more efficiently.
Thank you for helping my young learners have the things they need to be successful in school.
