Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The theater students at A. High School are a diverse community of learners with a passion to share their love of theater with their local community. Over the past four years they have worked hard to develop a program that is safe and inviting to all, a place where students can truly be themselves. They are a compassionate and dedicated group of students who welcome students of all walks of life as evidence by their program’s richly diverse racial/ethnic makeup as well as the inclusion of students with special needs. My students are committed to one another and to raising the profile of theater in their community.
My Project
The technical theater students at A. High School work each day in our scene shop to construct sets and scenic elements for our four theatrical productions each year. As the program has grown, so too has the students’ appetite for more rigorous and complex design work. As such, students’ need for more advanced tools and equipment in their shop has increased. The tools listed will allow my students to design and construct more complex sets and backdrop elements, and will provide them more opportunities to develop skills with contemporary equipment. These tools will also allow students to be able to complete their construction projects in a faster more efficient way.
