This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Teaching in a magnet program is a unique experience. Along with this experience, the students that come into the program come from all over the school district. 90% of them come from low income/high poverty areas and chose the magnet in order to get away from the issues that overcome their home schools. They overcome so much in order to get a quality education.
My students chose to come to the school I teach at because they know it will give them a chance to have a better future and give them more opportunities.
They are always looking for thing to be interested in and the themes that are offered at my school give them choices for their future. Their curiosity for learning makes them unique. They also find a sense of family within the magnet program. They build healthy relationships with their fellow classmates and faculty where learning and growing is a breath of fresh air.
My Project
9th graders have a difficult time transitioning into high school culture. The are lost amongst all the new responsibilities and schedule they have to maintain as a high school student. One of the most difficult tasks for them is time management.
Using planners will help them learn this important skill which make them successful in their first year of high school and beyond.
Giving students planners on the first day of school is one less worry and a tool that will help them transition smoothly. Students will keep track of all class work/homework and extra curricular activities and have an easier time with their time management.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
