My Students
This year, I will be teaching fourth grade. Our district is very diverse, and approximately 60% of our students are English language learners.
Our students come from a wide range of different socioeconomic backgrounds.
Over 60% of our students receive a free lunch. Our school also has a wide range of academic levels. Our school supports this wide range with programs like our Response to Intervention (RTI) Reading Program. Teachers regularly meet to look at student learning, analyze assessments, and examine our practice.
I am inspired every day by the young people we serve. Many of our students face adversity in their lives, yet they come to school eager to learn each day. Our families come from diverse backgrounds and come together to support and celebrate these kids. This year, more than ever, we are having to find ways to connect with families and support our learners.
My Project
This grant will help many of my students. A lot of nine and ten year olds are still learning how to focus their attention on school work. In a class of 30 this can be a real struggle. After last year being at home for virtual school, I am definitely seeing a higher need in building school stamina than ever before. I also have a handful of students with attention deficit disorders and sensory needs.
The items in this grant will provide useful tools to help my students focus during class.
I have many students who struggle with sitting in a chair for long periods of times. The chair bands will help their feet wiggle. The under the desk bike peddle will also really help a few students who really need to be moving to focus. Some students really need a small fidget tool in their hands to be able to keep their body calm. I often need to change out these tools when one is no longer effective. The weighted pillow will help a student with sensory needs feel calm.
I also threw in a few basic supplies since I was already writing this grant. We are in need of expo markers and some craft supplies. We also need some wall hooks to hang headphones.
