We are a culturally diverse, rural high school. Our students are the pride of our school system. Students compete on all levels from local to national through athletics, FFA, FBLA, and BETA club activities. As a high school media specialist, I serve the entire 9-12 grade student population.
We have high expectations for our students, meaning we want them to leave high school fully prepared for whatever they have chosen, whether it be college, vocational or straight into a career field.

My Project
Being prepared for the first day of college is very much like the first day of kindergarten in that students need the basic supplies to be successful. Our students have worked very hard to reach this point and I want to help reward them for their effort by providing some of the things they need to continue their success at the next level.
Making a choice of what college to attend is a huge choice and we are planning a huge Decision Day event that will recognize and celebrate our seniors by letting them share their post high school plans.
This year has obviously been a challenging year for our students. The uncertainty of knowing on a day to day basis whether they are going to have to switch to virtual Learning has impacted our students more than we can imagine and the materials requested help our students feel even more motivated to apply to post-secondary institutions because they have the chance to win these items in a raffle!
To make Decision Day fun and exciting, I would love to reward these students with amazing gifts that are relevant to their personal decisions. For this project I am asking for the college basics such as backpacks, cozy blankets, notebooks, colored pens, a water bottle which will be decorated with their college choice, Amazon Gift cards for them to purchase more books and supplies and a Dave Ramsey Total Money Makeover book to help guide them in financial literacy. With these materials, it is my hope that my students will be able to continue the success they have found at the high school level through planning and organization!
