Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project will support students in grades K-5, giving them engaging ways to identify and express feelings, practice making positive choices, build relationships and develop coping and mindfulness skills.

The books in this project will give my students relatable characters and stories that can help them understand and name their own emotions.

They will open conversations about anxiety, friendship, kindness, confidence, perseverance, grief, family changes and belonging. These visual stories provide an accessible way to build emotional vocabulary and communicate feelings, while making complex social-emotional concepts easier to understand.

The conversation cubes will provide a comfortable way to begin talking about feelings, relationships, challenges, and experiences that may be difficult to put into words. The Making Good Choices Match-Ups will help students identify choices, consider consequences and solutions to everyday problems.

The Mindful Maze will provide a hands-on opportunity to practice focus, patience, mindfulness and self-regulation. These activities can be especially helpful for students who benefit from movement while learning, providing them with a strategy to use when they feel overwhelmed.

Together, these resources will help me create a counseling space where students can read, talk, practice and regulate. My hope is that every student leaves with something they can carry with them whether it be a coping strategy, a better understanding of their feelings or greater confidence.
