High school Common Core curriculum for Algebra Two and for our Calculus course requires my students to work with and interpret information and data in new ways including tables, diagrams, graphs, and stories. Therefore, daily handouts have now become a necessity.
I am extremely lucky to teach in a very large, urban, dual-mission public high school which focuses on both the arts and academics.
My intelligent, enthusiastic, motivated, talented, creative, and hard-working students come from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic levels.
My Project
My DonorsChoose.org printer has been indispensable to my students and me (and my fellow math teachers). The toner cartridge will need to be replaced very soon. Common Core units of study require worksheets for lessons, activities, homework, review, and assessments. This means my students receive handouts on a daily basis. Students also ask me to write, print and mail letters of recommendation for college applications and scholarships.
Our school building is huge and resources are stretched so printing, even a single page, becomes time-consuming.
If a student needs a printed document from me, we must go to another floor. Having a working printer which is easily accessible, would make it possible for me, and other math teachers, to quickly print a needed document.
With toner for an accessible printer, teachers will be able to create lessons whereby students can explore all types of problems while in class. They will also be able to work on these problems at home.
