Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students face so many challenges, but they realize that education is the vehicle to drive them towards a more promising future. With so many issues, it is my mission as their educator, to take them away and rescue them from their pressing worries through the joys of meaningful experiences and exposure to what life has to offer.

Our school is extremely poverty-stricken, but we don't take this rank as an excuse to have a pity party, but rather as a means of motivation.

We strive to plant seeds of hope and reassure the students that education is the key that unlocks the doors of opportunity and future success.

By understanding that there is more to life than what meets the eye, it is my belief that my students will do what it takes to beat the odds, defy the statistics and embrace the world of education and all it has to offer.

My Project

With new research and the need for financial literacy, I hope to create a foundation in financial literacy. It's so important to start this learning at a young age, so in my fourth grade classroom, we are ready to get started!

Financial literacy is so important within my community, as many of my students come from homes where money is tight.

I want my students to understand the difference between needs and wants. With this concept, I want to start with the basics. I want to teach my students the difference between needs and wants. More importantly, I want them to learn to earn "money" to buy the items they need and want.

Within my classroom, I want to start at token economy with a class store, where students will earn tokens for their behavior and character. They will then be able to use those tokens to purchase things they need, like school supplies, or want, like the items I am requesting in this project. Please consider helping my students learn this important life skill!
