Each day, I have the opportunity to work with an outstanding group of third-grade students. Third graders' zest and eagerness to learn something new never ceases to amaze me. Students arrive every morning full of smiles, excitement, and energy eager to start a new day of learning.
My third graders come to me with a wide array of academic ability, background knowledge, and experiences that make each child unique.
Our school serves many military students and my students spend this year learning the foundation and love of reading. My students are very excited about chapter books and have a strong love for reading. They are very bright, ready to learn and a lot of fun to teach.
My Project
I'm a first-year teacher and creating a classroom library is a task at hand in itself, but creating a classroom library full of books that interest third graders is almost impossible without knowing what books interest them! Children have a natural love for books, and I want to strengthen their love of reading by providing them with endless book choices. I want my children to have the opportunity to read books about topics such as empathy, kindness, compassion, and acceptance.
The titles I have selected are precisely the books that my students have asked for, but they're also series that I know are tried and true, characters that I know will be loved this year, and many years thereafter.
We know that the best way to make an avid reader is to allow them to read things that interest them! What better way to interest a student than giving them access to characters they know, love, and want to read about!
I know that when this project is funded that my students will be elated. Filling their book buckets with new choices from the classroom library is going to feel so special!
