My Students

What is not to love about my students? My students are a very diverse group. They come from all of the world - Burma, Sierra Leone, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Iraq, Brazil and the Dominican Republic. They work extremely hard to learn: even those with severe language barriers.

My students persevere in the classroom each and every day.

They never give up. Even when they come to school, tired and hungry they never give up. Some come from dysfunctional homes, a parent or two possibly in jail or rehab, they could be homeless, hungry and cold and even then they still come to school each and every day to learn because this is the only thing they have control over - their education!!

They love to read and enjoy reading so much more when there are books available that they can relate to.

.

My Project

We are promoting book clubs in all classrooms. The books for student choices are outdated. We all need to make our own choices and not be forced to read a topic that does not interest us. Students need choice!

Promoting the love of reading with new and exciting titles that include diversity will help my school's students foster the love of reading.

Reading in the classroom is not a chore as books are such a precious gift to behold. All students love to feel special and to be given brand new books to hold in their hand will put a smile on their face!
