My Students
My class is located in a low socioeconomic area in southwest Mississippi. It consists of a diverse population of students eager to learn and grow academically.
My students are smart, kind, and loving with a desire to be better today than they were yesterday. Many lack strong, positive, nurturing role models at home and look to their teachers to fill that void. They challenge me, they disappoint me, and they keep me on my toes, but more than anything they make me proud. They remind me every day why God called me to be a teacher.
My Project
The books currently in my classroom library are tattered and torn due to years of student use. It's not unusual for students to bring me a book to tape back together before they can begin reading it. Not only are most of the books falling apart, but they are mostly older titles that the students have already read or are not interested in.
In order to foster a love for reading, which will benefit my students far beyond 4th grade, I'd like to provide them with an updated classroom library stocked with high interest books on a variety of reading levels so that every student can find a book to fall in love with.
I hope to transform my classroom library from a bookshelf full of old worn out books that no one wants to read, to a bookshelf full of new, current titles that my students can't wait to get their hands on!
