This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This is my 22nd year teaching in an urban school and my third year in preschool. We have a very diverse population with families from more than 30 countries. Our diversity is our greatest strength!
Early childhood education is essential to closing the gap for urban students.
Now that our district offers free education for three- and four-year-olds, we are able to prepare students for kindergarten. I truly believe early childhood education is the first intervention we can offer our families.
My Project
I teach in an urban area where students don't have the opportunity to have family outings due to finances and a lack of transportation.
Our trip to Grant's Farm will allow my students to experience animal encounters they would not otherwise have!
With funding, the students will get to ride the carousel as well as feed goats and parakeets. We plan to have lunch at Grant's Farm so we are able to make the most or our time.
Grant's Farm has two exciting shows and up-close animal encounters that are perfect for preschoolers. I am very hopeful that our project gets funded so the kids get this amazing opportunity!
