My students are wonderful kiddos who are eager to learn. Many of them are military children and are shifted from school to school as the military moves their families. Others come from low socio-economic backgrounds, so many of them have not had opportunities like other students have had. Many of them have never traveled outside of Kentucky. Some are in family situations such that they need to know they are somebody special and that people care about them.
My students are energetic, personable, and enthusiastic about learning using alternative means.
Books, paper and pencil don't reach my students. They learn best by being a part of the learning experience and by utilizing technology. However, many do not have access to technology (i.e. cell phone, internet) that most middle school students have. Their only opportunity to utilize technology comes at school. So as a result, I like to provide them with as many learning experiences as possible.
My Project
Chromebooks will make learning come alive. By having Chromebooks in my classroom, we can do things like take virtual field trips to ancient Egypt and go on virtual archaeological digs in the Fertile Crescent. Further, students can do things like use QR codes to complete tasks related to ancient civilizations. There are so many exciting opportunities for students in studying Ancient Civilizations when we can "jump" into those civilizations using technology!
The whole ancient world of civilizations can come alive when students can engage in and experience it!
This is made possible through the internet and the many wonderful websites that bring these civilizations to life for students.
When students are engaged and active in their learning using other means than their book, paper and pencil, learning becomes fun for them, and they want to learn more!! That is every teacher's dream!
