My students need materials so they can get creative (glue sticks, scissors) or reflective (pencils, notebooks) and a way to preserve their work (laminating sheets, folders).

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our high poverty, inner city English Language Learners fight enough obstacles just to make it to school each day. We won't let a lack of school supplies create one more barrier for success.
Our school is a public charter high school in a low-income, inner-city community.
Ninety-three percent of students are English Language Learners. I am one of two Resource Specialists, and our 50+ students with IEPs have Learning Disabilities, Autism, and AD/HD. With enough support, our students experience tremendous success in high school and beyond.
Imagine that you make it to class but don't have paper and pencil to write with. Or maybe your assignment is to prepare a presentation using cut-outs from a magazine, but you can't glue them to the page. A little help is all it takes to make learning a reality for these high school students trying to keep their dream of college alive. Our students need supplies to fuel their creativity and reflection, skills which cannot help but make them better scholars and happier people.
My Project
Our students will use these materials each and every day as they work hard to overcome obstacles and build on their strengths, propelling them toward maximum success. Such basics as glue, paper and pencils provide the foundation for meaningful classroom experiences and foster the growth of budding imaginations.
You can remove the stigma of not having the supplies and materials needed to succeed in school.
Instead of shifting nervously in their seats with their eyes downcast, hoping to avoid detection because they are not able to cover their basic needs, our scholars will actively participate in projects and complete assignments showing the very best of their talents and abilities.
