Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The challenge facing my students is a lack of opportunity to conduct experiments. Talking about science and viewing videos on-line is not enough. In order to truly understand, a student must directly experience the phenomenon. That can only be done with lab supplies. We are asking for your help.
We are a poor urban school consisting of Hispanic and Black students.
We focus on making studentsâ college bound with an emphasis on returning to the community in order to improve the overall quality of life here. We talk about their dreams and what is required to reach that level of success. My students love to build projects from simple supplies that reflect physics principles. They are eager to understand newly observed behavior and assimilate it into a broader paradigm. They want to take what they learn in class and turn it into a profession. Together we connect physics to the world around us and to their desired subjects of study in college. They want to understand why we draw the conclusions that we make. How is data collected and analyzed to explain the behavior of any system? How can general principles be brought to bear unique results? My students are looking to produce real world results by being proactive in cultivating their lives and the members of our community.
My Project
In your donation you will find reusable resources that consist of demonstrations on mechanics, electricity, magnetism, optics, circuits, gravity, sound, and heat. There is also a set of calculators for solving equations and analyzing data. The supplies are simple yet highly effective. Students will be using the labâs components to explore key fundamental principles. They will be asked to extrapolate out from their discoveries and conceive of new ideas or relate a broader picture to a family of behaviors operating within the boundaries of a system. Students are learning how to think, how to gather information, how to deduce a solution, and how to ask questions. Physics gives my students the ability to see the future and understand it. The quality of their education grows exponentially with every shared experience they have together. Shared experiences allow students to engage in debate, create visualizations, and speculate mind experiments on phenomenon yet to be observed. Thank you.
This project is incredibly important to us.
With so few resources available, we prize every opportunity that comes our way. The broad impact of these supplies will prepare students for college; whereby making a difference in their lives and their future families forever. Physics is more than just numbers and words. It gives us context, meaning, and purpose. It guides us and enables us to reflect on the choices we have made and how to adjust our behavior in order to maximize our potential.
