My students need help covering the cost of admission to see the hit production, Seussical, in Charlotte, North Carolina as we prepare for our own Dr. Seuss plays.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In this small, rural town our mission is "High Tech, High Expectations: Committed to Excellence for All Students!" When you serve students in a high need, high poverty area with over ninety percent students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, every advantage has the potential to be life-changing. No matter what challenges our students may face in life, they come to school ready to learn and eager to explore.
If there is one lesson that I have learned, it is not to place my own limitations on my students.
I know that my students are always ready to take their learning to the next level. They are independent thinkers who are fearless when it comes to new experiences. They will try anything, and that is what will allow them to be successful, whether it is in college, a chosen profession, or life in general.
My Project
This project will cover the admission fee so our students can go on a field trip to see the live musical and stage performance of Seussical.
Our students will study the characters in the play and make observations about how actors change into different characters.
They will participate in activities related to the experience such as cooking Green Eggs and Ham and creating their own Seussical mini-play that will be presented to family and community members during our S.T.E.A.M performance.
Seeing the live performance of Seusssical will help our students generate ideas for props, costumes, songs, and other essentials for a fun performance. These will be based on our Dr. Seuss favorites.
