Students in my Transitional Kindergarten classroom enter at age 4 and turn 5 before December. It is a unique opportunity for these younger students to have a bridge between Preschool and Kindergarten that meets their specific developmental needs. The TK program is paving the way for a foundation that is built on a love of learning.
Students in my class are learning what it means to be part of a larger group as they extend their safety net to include school.
All of my students are learning the social language of school as they explore engaging materials. I have several English Language Learners, some of whom speak more than 2 languages at home, who need extra support developing language skills. I believe the use of literature is my most powerful tool for providing opportunities for these young minds to learn about both their own world and the many worlds outside of themselves.
My Project
These materials will help me redesign the classroom. I want to provide opportunities for more storytelling with open-ended materials like the Simply Sweet Fabric Play Scarves and Guidecraft Rainbow and Magnifying Blocks. The woven baskets and wooden bowls will help me organize these materials in an inviting and accessible way. These materials will be put out in our new Storytelling Station to encourage children to expand their use of story language.
I am looking forward to enhancing our beautiful classroom!
My hope is to create a cozy reading nook using the Canicove Teepee Tent and floor cushion. The warm twinkle lights will enhance the feeling that our space is a magical one! I hope to continue to instill a love of reading and provide quiet opportunities for students who want to interact with the worlds of books!
