Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I like to refer to my students as my awesome fourth graders. They come to me with a wide range of backgrounds, goals, and abilities. At our school, most of the students are Hispanic/Latino or African American. It is my goal to prepare them to be successful in school as well as out in their communities.
When it comes to my students, there are pieces of demographic data that concern me and make me want to provide them with more resources.
According to the 2010 census, 44% of Fresno students live in poverty. I know that this can have a significant impact on our students' learning, especially when certain resources aren't readily available to them on a daily basis.
This year, my incoming students have a great need for reading intervention and enrichment. I hope that with your help, I'm able to provide them with the resources they need to improve in all academic areas.
My Project
As winter and spring come around, my students are prone to getting more colds or having allergies act up. This time of the year leads to a lot of runny noses and coughing. This means that tissues are in high demand. However, we don't always have them available in the classroom.
For this reason, I would like to provide my class with enough boxes of tissue for the students to use on a daily basis.
This would help solve the problem of students sometimes having to walk across campus to get toilet paper to use for their nose whenever we run out of tissue paper. It is always helpful to have supplies like this available in the classroom.
