My Project

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my project. I am an Early Childhood (Preschool) Special Education teacher for a rural area in Virginia. My students are ages 2-5 and all have either Developmental Delays, Autism, or Multiple Disabilities. Most struggle with their social-emotional skills, making it hard for them to appropriately express themselves. Some of the biggest emotions I see with my students are anger and frustration. This severely impacts their ability to navigate their environment, making social-emotional materials vital to help them regulate and understand their emotions.

I would like to give my kiddos access to social-emotional toys and materials so that they can better understand and express themselves through play.

Although they are little, they have VERY big feelings and need a lot of help understanding and expressing themselves. One of the best ways to do this is through play and toys that help them visualize what they are feeling. These toys and books will hold their attention and provide a fun, interactive way for them to understand what they are feeling and how to better express themselves. With this project and materials, my students would have better support in the educational environment that would otherwise not be available to them.
