Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
For 16 years, I have taught at-risk youth in a detention/placement environment. They are typically with me for 6-9 months before being discharged and going back to their home schools. I want to help my students beyond the time I teach them in my classroom.
I have learned so much from my students about their life experiences, and I will never fully know what it is like in their shoes, but I want to help them as best I can.
My students tell me that they want to learn skills that will help them once they leave our facility. They just need a little more help on how to make it happen.
My Project
Reading is magic! Adding a class set of Atomic Habits: Tiny Changes, Remarkable Results will be beneficial to not only my current students but all of the future students who come through this facility.
I look forward to conducting a book study and learning right along with them because who doesn't want to be their best self?
As a class, we will read a chapter a week together, individually, or in small groups. After each chapter, we will hold a Socratic seminar, which will allow the students to listen closely and respond to the comments of others, think critically for themselves, and give their own thoughts on the topic.
The best part is that they will be able to leave with valuable information to help them along the way.
