I teach second grade in a school that is approximately sixty-five percent Title 1. Over half of our students come from economically disadvantaged homes. We have a diverse group of students, including African Americans, Asians, and Hispanic students. My students come with a variety of needs and reading levels.
These children come to school each day ready to learn and with smiles of their faces.
They are excited to read and love having the chance to choose books in our classroom library. They love new books, any opportunity to read, and to share their thoughts.
My Project
In our second grade classrooms we use money to help encourage being respectful and responsible to adults and their classmates. They can earn money for being on task, remembering to bring their folders back each day, showing kindness to each other, and helping to keep our learning environment clean . . . just to name a few. In addition, we are learning how our monetary system works, and how to accurately identify and count money.
Making the right choice, and always being kind can be tough at times, rewarding these choices helps my students see just how important these choices are.
The items I'm asking for are ones that will grab our students' attention, and motivate them to earn more money! These include Legos, squishes, Play-Doh, journals, and more! These items are some of our second graders' favorites that they will be excited to purchase with their money.
