Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our class is filled with an amazing group of self-started and motivated kindergarten learners who empower me every day to provide them with a rigorous and excellent academic experience.
Their highly motivated spirit inspires me to provide them with a learning environment that provides them with the resources, academic experiences and research-based instructional strategies that will empower them to continue their learning beyond my classroom walls.
Regardless of their low-socioeconomic background, diversity in academic experiences and needs, they arrive every day very excited to learn and succeed.
My Project
The purpose of integrating TIME FOR KIDS® Informational Text in our class is to provide all students in my classroom with a library that will provide endless opportunities to purposefully engage with informational text. The high-interest topics, photographs, and informational text features will impact students' academic vocabulary, content knowledge, fluency, comprehension skills, and inquiry.
According to (Marzano, 2000) research, nonfiction text helps students to develop background knowledge, and it accounts for 33 percent of the variance in student academic achievement.
It is important to mention that background knowledge becomes more crucial as the students continue their academic journey in the upper grade levels.
This classroom library will ensure that every student will have many opportunities throughout the school year to enjoy and remember their positive and purposeful reading experiences in class.
