Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember reading about other students around the world and wondering what it would be like to be them? My students are not able to see the world by traveling, so this is the next best thing. They will also become aware of current events and how it effects the world they live in.
My class consists of 29 students from many different cultures.
My school is 100 % free lunch and most families are living at the poverty level. Most of their parents do not speak english and my young students are given adult responsibilities at a very early age.
My Project
Having a resource such as TIME for kids, allows my students to read non fiction text about things that truly interest them. They will read about current events that are written at a reading level they can understand and enjoy. Each child will have their own copy which not only allows them to use this resource in school , but also at home.
I have ordered this resource in the past and the students look forward to reading every issue.
Many save each issue to share with their families. It is a great learning tool not only for my students, but for their parents and siblings as well. Anything you can donate to help fund my project will be greatly appreciated by all!!
