Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our community school is very diverse where many backgrounds and languages are represented. For most of our students, English is not their primary language. As a result, my students face challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the challenges they face on an everyday basis, I am always looking to provide my students with meaningful learning experiences.
My students show up to school excited and ready to learn!
It is my goal to help my students not only reach the next reading level, but to keep my students motivated to learn.
My Project
My "Time To Preserve Their Memories" project will start off as student portfolios and by the end of the year will turn into memory boxes that my students will be able to take with them. Throughout the school year, I keep many important pieces of writing and valuable work that each student has created throughout the school year to show academic growth.
As an educator, I believe it is important for students to reflect back on the year and to see how much they have learned and accomplished!
These student portfolios turned memory boxes will allow for students to see just how much they learned in one year. The file folders I am requesting will be used to serve as a student portfolio during the school year. This will help me store each student's work in an organized way until the end of the year. At the end of the year, I will empty the folders filled with student work into pizza boxes that will now become a memory box for each student to keep. The tape will help the boxes stay together. Students will be able decorate the box and take it home filled with all their work throughout the school year. In addition, I will include photos that I have taken throughout the year as an added surprise. My students work hard during the school year and this student portfolio turned memory box will capture all of their learning and fun that took place during 5th grade!
