Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My amazing 2nd grade class is made up of a diverse array of backgrounds. This includes English Language Learners, students with learning disabilities, Dyslexia, ADHD, BI, autism, as well as students coming from single-parent homes or migrant children living with relatives other than their parents. Despite these challenges most of my students face, I am extremely proud of their efforts and eagerness to learn. In our classroom as well as our school, we strive to provide all students with a quality education in a nurturing environment that helps produce well-rounded individuals ready to contribute to society.
My students are creative, inquisitive, and ready for new challenges.
They love to be involved in school projects and academic competitions to include Science Fair, Brainsville, UIL, and Coding.
Our school is located a few miles from the international border with Mexico which makes our student population very unique.
My Project
During this pandemic, our students have spent much of their time indoors without much physical activity. Now that we are back in school physically, one of my goals is to ensure that my students learn the importance of moving our bodies, eating healthy, making good choices to maintaining a strong body.
I would love to start a project with my students where everyday, two new students wear an iWatch for the entire school day where we can track their movement and physical activity.
We will create a chart for the class and compare how many steps they took daily and how that affects their physical well being. We will incorporate a variety of physical activities in our daily routine and compare which activities are most beneficial for our bodies. This, in turn, will be shared with the families so that they could hopefully, incorporate some of the activities at home as well. Perhaps, we can encourage families to be more active together to help keep them healthy.
I would also love to use this Apple Watch to allow my students to improve their financial literacy skills. One student will be the watch leader for the week. That student will get to wear the watch all week long to track the amount of class play money each student gets through the use of spreadsheets and calculator apps provided by the watch. I hope my students learn the valuable lessons of keeping track of their health and financial skills through the use of this watch.
