My Project

Understanding elapsed time is challenging for third-grade students. To address this, we propose integrating geared clocks with attached number lines into our curriculum. Traditional analog clocks often fail to provide a tangible representation of elapsed time, leading to confusion. By combining clocks with number lines, students can visually track time's progression, reinforcing the relationship between numerical values and time intervals. This dynamic representation promotes deeper understanding and engagement.

Research supports using multiple representations to enhance mathematical learning, catering to diverse learning styles.

Geared clocks and number lines provide hands-on experiences, fostering mathematical reasoning. Our initiative aims to empower educators with innovative teaching tools to support student success in math. With this grant, we can acquire resources and professional development to implement this approach effectively. By enriching third-grade classrooms with these tools, we anticipate significant improvements in students' ability to comprehend and apply elapsed time concepts, ultimately enhancing overall mathematical learning outcomes.
