My students need reading materials to supplement and support good reading habits. I am hoping to encourage my students to read material that is important to them with real world connections.
Our school has a greatly diverse population of students who need a variety of approaches to learning. With our entire school receiving free lunch, asking parents for funding to improve student outcomes is not possible.
Students learn in a variety of ways and funding for projects to supplement our antiquated programs are not in place.
I encourage my students to the same standards as other students throughout the county and try to use a myriad of different approaches to give the highest success.
We are working diligently toward becoming an International Baccalaureate School by giving our students a variety of experiences from which to learn. This process strengthens student understanding. Our students often need more background development of skills before becoming proficient with basic understandings of grade level skills.
My Project
Most of my students struggle to read on grade level and find little or no support with real world materials for children. I have used newspapers and books, but "Time For Kids" is a great resource that is created with children in mind.
I am hoping to encourage understanding of the world and life long readers and learners.
As an International Baccalaureate school, it is important to show children cultures, lives, countries and the international scope of learning for all children around the world. Time for Kids has the potential to do just that.
Children will have the opportunity to read and apply their understanding of culture and world information. Time for Kids offers students an opportunity to read grade level material, learn skills, and gain knowledge about world events while improving skills.
