My Students

Students come to my class daily excited to learn about Social Studies. They don't seem to know much about current events and I would like them to be able to connect with they are learning in the classroom with things happening around the world.

50% of our students live at or below the poverty level, and many come from single parent families.

School data shows that we are gaining more economically disadvantaged students each year, and we are currently not receiving Title I funds to support them. Our student population is pretty diverse with about 30% of our students being white, 30% being Hispanic, 30% being African-American, 4% Asian, 4% mixed race, and the other 2% representing other cultural backgrounds, These student thirst to learn about skills that they might not otherwise get to experience and our classroom mission is to provide learning opportunities.

My Project

These magazines will enhance what is bring taught in the classroom and allow the students to make connections with current events happening around the world. Many of my students are struggling readers and the more reading we do the better readers they will become. Time for Kids magazines are written at a level the students can read and understand plus they are high interest so it makes them want to read them.

The magazines will help the students increase their literacy skills!

It is a win-win for the students. It helps them improve their reading skills while exposing them to things happening around the world.
