Mrs. M. PS 202 Ernest Jenkyns
Brooklyn, NY Grades 3-5

The eighteen third-graders in my classroom are well-rounded youngsters who are always intrigued by new reading materials, and I am always searching for new ways to develop their love for reading. I teach literacy, mathematics and all of the other core curriculum subjects. The school I work at is full of dedicated teachers. We try our best to reach all of our students, and despite numerous challenges, we are able to help our students catch the spirit of learning. However, our school's resources are very limited, and for this reason I am requesting funding for a subscription to the magazine: TIME for Kids Magazine -- News Scoop Edition with Go Places With TFK! This TIME is specially designed for second- and third-graders. Having this subscription would provide my students with the opportunity to read up-to-date news information and it will help increase their reading exposure. Broadening their horizons through reading good nonficiton is so important for my students because many of my students don't have resources available to them that would give them the opportunity to get this kind of reading material and, thus, have the experience of learning about their world. My students must rely on me and the other teachers at school to provide them with challenging activities and insightful resources. My curious third-graders would truly benefit from this great resource. This subscription would entice them into the world of news magazines and newspapers, and it would create an ongoing expectation and reading experience because each student will be provided with an individual weekly magazine. This gift to my students would be a wonderful surprise that they would cherish all year. My students are keen and eager learners and I am positive this resource will help them improve their reading comprehension and boost their test scores. Thank you.
