Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from different backgrounds and cultures, they have different values and morals, and cultural beliefs. My students learn in different ways, some through hands-on activities, some through seeing practical applications and real-world examples of the mathematical equations we work on in class. Some of them learn better through using digital platforms for skill-specific interventions and our daily lessons, and others learn better through the use of paper and pencil lessons and skill-specific interventions. They all have different, but similar, IEP goals and those goals include the necessity for teacher-provided supports for them to be able to read and comprehend enough of the material to be considered proficient. Each one of the students brings something different to my classroom, something to offer to each lesson, a unique individual perspective that most of the time they are willing to share with the rest of the class. When they do share, more times than not, their perspective in solving a mathematical equation helps a few low peer groups to understand a portion, if not all the steps to solving the same equation that they themselves were struggling with.

My Project

These materials and resources will be placed about the classroom in a way to help my students with independence, as well as to provide my paraprofessionals and myself with the space we need to provide intervention for the students. The intervention will be supported in the form of paraprofessional, or teacher-guided practice problems with that guidance gradually pulled back to allow the students to work independently, building self-efficacy. The stations that will be set up in the classroom, will help them achieve their IEP goals and build foundational skills that my students are struggling with, as well as help them with self-reliance and responsibility for their own education.

The bookshelves will house the students' progress tracking sheets, within the binders, that can be easily accessed by the paraprofessionals and myself, as well as the students.

The students will review their quarterly objectives, bi-weekly, to monitor their goal progress. The dry erase markers will be used during guided practice when the paras, or myself, do a quick check for understanding. The paper will help me print the necessary materials and resources to provide to my aides and the students for said progress monitoring resources as well as the materials for the stations.

My goal is to help all my students reach their IEP goals while also providing the best education I can through intervention and instruction. I have high expectations for all my students, and I believe that they are all capable of meeting them as they are realistic and attainable. I have no doubt that given the right classroom environment, the right resources, a dedicated teacher, and paraprofessionals, with some encouragement and support, my students can do anything they set their mind to.
