This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hardworking, bright, young individuals. They attend school each and every day, ready to learn, and meet all high expectations. My students love challenges and face difficulties each and every day with smiles on their faces. My students come from a Title I school with a high population of English learners. Most come from a low-income household and have limited resources and experiences. For many of my students, their only chance of life-enriching activities is at school. They love school and I want to make this place the most enriching place for them!

My Project

Financial literacy is just as important as any other literacy out there! And what better way to tie in financial literacy with media literacy, just like the good ol' days! Time for Kids magazines are perfect for students! They are interesting, relevant, and most importantly, feature financial literacy articles and lessons every few weeks!

Time for Kids Magazines feature current event news articles along with relevant financial literacy articles that students find interesting!

Students in the entire grade level will receive classroom credit at the beginning of the year. With these credits, students will purchase a weekly magazine to do their weekly assignments and tasks. When they finish their work, students can earn back for more credits. Most importantly, students will earn double the credits with the special financial literacy lessons that are featured in the articles. As students earn credits, they will save these and "spend" them for incentives or school related goodies in the classroom at the end of the trimester. They can even use the credits to use the Makey Makey Inventor's Kit to code and invent with their classmates during our Inventor's Hour!

Financial Literacy education will not only help my students become responsible people, it'll help them become critical thinkers and good problems solvers in our complex world!
