This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our 3rd grade classroom is located in a large, low-income community where homelessness is not uncommon.

We have a range of unique talents, abilities, challenges and characteristics that all blend together in a way that works for us.

As an educator, I strive to see that students get what they need out of our learning to achieve their potential while they are here.

Together with the students, I strive to create an environment that strengthens their desire to learn and encourages them to discover a life-long love of learning. I love showing my students that learning is a blast and it opens doors for them in life!

My Project

Often students live out of vehicles, in shelters and in motels. This moves their focus from learning and being a kid to worrying about their basic needs.

I have found that challenging my students and helping them be present on the classroom has helped to build their self-esteem and confidence to move forward, even when they are confronted with different hardships in their life.

These hygiene products will make a positive difference in my students' learning because when they come to school and have the confidence of knowing their workspace is clean and smelling fresh. They themselves will have clean hands and faces and not be worried about what others think.

They won't be held back by these basic cleanliness needs not being met, so they will participate and extend their learning while they are in class. Students will be able to comb or brush their hair for the day and feel more successful when participating in class. They will feel like more like themselves!
