Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember the first time you read a book and could not put it down? My students are wanting to discover that same feeling.
I teach a group of inner city, low-income five and six-year-olds.
The dynamics of the class is half Hispanic and half African American. They attend a public Charter School. The school's main goal is to get the students to and through college. In doing this, our classroom is named after a major university. The children are excited to know that one day they will be able to attend college. There are several low readers in the class. Most of the children do not own books, but express the joy of reading and being read to.
My Project
I am requesting LEAP TAG material for my students. I have a major passion for literacy. These LEAP TAG material will help children make the connection to words as they read. With the LEAP TAG books, the children are not able to have the story read to them. While doing this, they have to point to each word and they are identifying familiar words. In addition, the students will play comprehension games via LeAP TAg to check for understanding
LEAP TAG is a wonderful system to have in any classroom.
It offers support to ELL students and in my case, I have students who need "extra" support. This project will impact the way my students read, when I am working with others in small groups.
