I teach a group of inner city, low-income five and six-year-olds. The dynamics of the class is half Hispanic and half African American. They attend a public Charter School. The school's main goal is to get the students to and through college. In doing this, our classroom is named after a major university. The children are excited to know that one day they will be able to attend college. There are several low readers in the class. Most of the children do not own books, but express the joy of reading and being read to.
