My Project

Every day, I see my students coming to school with their boards in hand. They want to make space for themselves and their peers to skate together. Many students desire to learn how to skate, but not necessarily a space to do that. Nor do they have access to the gear they need to begin.

My goals for this project are to help students build a strong community with their peers at SciTech during activity period, which happens in the middle of our school day, and to ignite a passion for skating.

I want to provide an activity that students are asking for, not one pre-determined by anyone else.

My students are special because they support and learn from one another. There is a larger skating community in Pittsburgh that they will connect with as well - we plan to have a local skatepark visit us and bring ramps frequently along with instructors that focus on community building.
