My Students

Inquisitive, playful and creative are just some of the words used to describe the 578 students at Sepulveda Elementary, all each with their own unique personalities and needs. The students at Sepulveda are encouraged, through Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), to explore and learn about emotions and attitudes to help them develop healthy identities, feel and show empathy for others, and make responsible and safe decisions to become well rounded individuals. Our students thrive when they can explore their emotions in a safe environment that engages all five of their senses. By creating a sensory room, students will be able to increase their concentration, deescalate (if needed), and develop their fine and gross motor skills. We are looking to purchase sensory items such as water mats, bubble lamps, fun alternative sensory furniture (swings, yoga balls, sensory bins, sensory circles, sand table, foam blocks, scooters, etc). We are so lucky to be able to create a space where kids can be themselves and we appreciate any help you may be able to give to make this dream of a room become a reality!!!

My Project

We are building a sensory room from the ground up with the hopes of helping students regulate their emotions, giving them a safe space to cope with challenges they may be facing. The lighting in the room such as the light filters, and bubble lamps will help create a quiet and restful tone for the room invaluable for de-escalation in student behavior.

Flexible seating and furniture such as the yoga balls, scooters, chair bands, bean bag chairs, and trampoline will provide students an outlet for releasing energy to restructure their focus within the classroom.

The sensory table will be used to hold kinetic sand, and water beads which will allow students to strengthen their fine motor skills and sensory processing. All the fidget sensory toys such as the bean bags, water mat, sensory circles, bubble pop fidgets, and fidget sets will promote increased concentration. Legos, magnets, building blocks and sequin drawing boards will be used to help heighten brain and body connection by strengthening fine motor skills.
